How to Use a Glass Coffee Plunger
Brewing the perfect cup of coffee is an art, and a glass coffee plunger can help you to make a great cup. A glass coffee plunger is a simple device, but using it correctly will make all the difference.
Here are some tips for how to use a glass coffee plunger to make the best cup of coffee.
1. Preheat the Plunger
To avoid over-extraction, preheat the plunger before brewing. To do this, boil the desired amount of water and allow the plunger to sit in the hot water for one or two minutes. Before using, pour the hot water out of the plunger.
2. Add the Coffee
Add the desired amount of ground coffee to the preheated plunger, making sure that the grounds are spread evenly.
3. Pour in the Water
Pour a little of the hot water into the plunger, and then stir to ensure the grounds are saturated. Once stirred, add the rest of the hot water and make sure that the plunger has been filled to the right level.
4. Wait
Allow the coffee to brew for four minutes. During this time, avoid moving or shaking the plunger.
5. Plunge
When the four minutes are up, place the plunger on top of the glass, and push down to plunge the grounds. Push down gently and with slow, even pressure. It’s important not to press down too fast, as this could lead to an unwanted bitter aftertaste.
6. Enjoy
Once filtered, your coffee is ready to be poured and enjoyed.
Tips for Brewing Perfect Coffee:
- Use freshly-ground coffee.
- Be consistent. Use the same amount of coffee and water each time so you know what to expect every time.
- Always Preheat. Preheating the plunger will ensure the grounds are extracted, but not over-extracted.
