How to Use a Chemex Glass Coffee Maker
Things You Will Need
- Chemex coffee maker
- Coffee beans
- Grinder
- Kettle or pot
- Hot water
- Coffee filter
Instructions
- Grind your coffee. Set up the Chemex coffee maker on top of a mug or carafe. Add one tablespoon of coffee for every five ounces of water. Make sure the grinds of the coffee are still coarse.
- Heat water to a temperature of 200 to 205 degrees Fahrenheit. It will take a few minutes for the water to reach this temperature. Too much heat could lead to over-extraction of the coffee.
- Place the filter paper inside the filter holder. The filter paper should be placed such that the thicker side can come into contact with the sides of the filter, ensuring proper filtration of the coffee.
- Rinse the filter with hot water before adding the coffee grounds. This removes the paper taste and pre-heats the brewing vessel.
- Start the timer and slowly pour hot water over the top of the coffee grounds. Do this in an even circular motion. Allow all the water to drip through the filter before adding more.
- Continue the process until you reach the desired amount of coffee. Stop the timer and remove the filter and coffee grounds. Your freshly brewed coffee is ready.
Tips
- Do not overfill the filter paper.
- Make sure the edges of the filter paper are placed evenly in the filter holder.
- Use cold water to help reduce the temperature of the coffee before serving.
- Always rinse and pre-heat the filter before use.
