How to Turn a Coffee Table into an Ottoman
Do you want to upgrade your living space without spending too much money? Use these simple steps to turn your coffee table into a stylish ottoman.
What You Need:
- Coffee Table
- Fabric – preferably of a heavier weight fabric, such as cotton, linen, twill, or leather
- Padding
- Upholstery Tacks
- Staple Gun
- Paint
Step 1: Measure Coffee Table
Before you buy your fabric or padding, measure the dimensions of your coffee table. You want to be sure the fabric you choose will be wide and long enough to cover the top and sides of your table, plus enough to tuck under the edges.
Step 2: Paint Coffee Table
If you choose to do so, you can paint your coffee table for a different look. You can use a spray paint, brush on paint, or even a combination of the two. Be sure to use a gloss or semi-gloss paint so it is easier to clean and will be resistant to wear and tear.
Step 3: Attach Padding
Attach the padding to the top of the coffee table, following the instructions of the product you’ve chosen. If you use upholstery foam, you can use a staple gun to secure it to the tabletop.
Step 4: Cut the Fabric
Cut the fabric according to the measurements of your coffee table. Make sure the fabric is long enough to overlap the sides and edges.
Step 5: Apply the Fabric
Apply the cut fabric to the coffee table, overlapping and tucking the fabric as you go. Use the upholstery tacks to secure the fabric along the edges.
Step 6: Enjoy!
Your coffee table is now transformed into a stylish ottoman. Relax and enjoy your new piece of furniture!
