How to Turn a Coffee Table Into an Ottoman

A coffee table can make a great addition to any living room, but what if you want something a little different? With a few simple supplies and a bit of effort, you can turn your coffee table into an ottoman that can provide extra seating or be used as a footrest. Here’s how to do it:

Gather Supplies

To turn your coffee table into an ottoman, you’ll need the following:

  • Fabric – Choose a fabric that coordinates with the room’s decor
  • Staple gun – You’ll use this to attach the fabric to the coffee table
  • Packing material – Depending on the size of your coffee table, you may need foam, batting, or stuffing to fill the ottoman
  • Scissors – To cut the fabric

Prepare the Table

Start by flipping the coffee table upside down. If it has legs, unscrew and remove them. Lay the fabric on a flat surface, and then place the upside-down coffee table on top. Cut the fabric so that you have several inches of excess fabric on each side.

Attach the Fabric

Starting in one of the corners, use the staple gun to attach the fabric to the underside of the coffee table. Be sure to pull the fabric tight as you go. Once each side is attached, you may need to trim any extra fabric.

Fill the Ottoman

Fold the sides of the fabric over the top of the coffee table to form a neat edge. Cut the packing material to fit the inside of the ottoman, and then stuff it gently into the sides. You can add or remove filling as needed to get the desired feel.

Finishing Touches

Finally, flip the coffee table back upright and give it a test run. Add some decorative throw pillows or blankets to complete the look. Now you have an ottoman that serves many purposes!
