How to Stencil a Coffee Table
Creating a stunning centerpiece in any room, a stenciled coffee table can be both easier and less expensive to make than you might think. Here’s everything you need to know to create the perfect coffee table:
1. Gather your supplies
To begin, you will need the following items:
- Coffee Table
- Stencil
- Paint (We recommend a flat latex paint or chalk paint in a color of your choice)
- Painter’s Tape (or masking tape)
- Foam Brush
2. Prepare your coffee table
Start by ensuring that your coffee table is clean and dust-free. If you are repainting your table and the existing finish is in good condition, use a degreaser to clean the surface. Once dry, use painter’s tape to cover anything you don’t want to be painted.
3. Begin stenciling
Place your stencil in the desired location on the table and secure with painters tape. Using your foam brush, dip it into the paint and apply a thin, even layer of paint to the table using circular motions. Start in the center of the stencil and work your way out. Keep the brush damp by dipping it back into the paint every few moments.
For extra protection, you can use a stencil adhesive to secure the stencil to the table.
4. Clean up and Seal
Once your stenciled design is complete, remove the stencil and allow the paint to dry thoroughly. Use a sealer to prevent chipping and to protect the paint.
5. Enjoy your new design
Your newly designed coffee table is ready to be enjoyed. Be sure to call your friends over to show it off!
