Repairing a Chipped Glass Coffee Table
Glass coffee tables may be stylish, but when they are chipped, they can become an eyesore and potentially dangerous. Fortunately, it is possible to repair a chipped glass coffee table in a few simple steps with minimal cost and effort.
What You Will Need:
- Glass Glue specifically designed for use with glass
- Emery cloth
- Masking or Painter’s Tape
Step by Step Instructions
- Clean and dry the chipped area thoroughly.
- If the chip is deep and jagged, you may need to use the emery cloth to round off the edges so they are less sharp.
- Next, cover the chip with the masking or painter’s tape, making sure it is completely sealed.
- Once the tape is securely places, add a few drops of the glass glue onto the chipped area.
- Once the glue is in place, remove the tape and allow the glue to dry completely.
- Once the glue is completely dry, use a razor blade to remove any excess glue or filler from the surface of the table.
Tips and Warnings
- Be sure to use only glass glue; glue designed for other surfaces will not work for glass.
- Be sure to use only small amounts of glue and not to over fill the chip; too much glue may harm the surface of the coffee table.
- Be sure to give the glue enough time to dry properly; this will ensure that the repair lasts as long as possible.
- Be careful when removing the excess glue and filler; they may be sharper than expected and can potentially cause injury.
