Easy Steps on How to Remove Wax from Coffee Table
Coffee tables are prone to candle wax drips that can leave a unsightly mess and make wood tables look worn and dingy. Fortunately, getting the wax off is fairly easy if you follow a few simple steps.
Things You’ll Need:
- Ice cubes
- Cotton fabric/ cloth/ paper towels
- Iron
Step 1: Cooling Down the Wax
The easiest way to remove wax is to cool it off first by using ice cubes. Place some ice cubes carefully on top of the wax, and leave them there for a few minutes. The cooling action should cause the wax to harden and cause it to contract, thus making it easier to remove.
Step 2: Scraping the Wax
Once the wax has cooled, gently scrape it off using a soft cloth, such as a cotton fabric or paper towels. Scrape away from the center of the wax drip to the outer edge. Make sure not to apply too much pressure, as this could damage the wood.
Step 3: Ironing the Wax
If done correctly, the wax should come off easily and should not have left a trace on the wood. However, if there are still wax stains on the wood, then you can try ironing the wax with a low heat setting. Carefully place a piece of cotton cloth over the wax stain and then place the warm iron over it for about 30 seconds. This should cause the wax to melt and be absorbed by the cloth.
Step 4: Checking the Wood
Once the wax stain is gone, check the wood to make sure that there is not any discoloration or any other types of damage. If there is any, then it may be best to have it professionally repaired.
Step 5: Finishing Up
Finally, use a wood cleaner to polish the table and restore its shine.
And that’s it! With these steps, you should have no trouble getting the wax off your coffee table.
