Redo A Coffee Table Top
Things You Will Need:
- Wooden coffee table top
- Sandpaper
- Vacuum
- Oil-based primer
- Paint
- Polyurethane
Step 1: Preparation
To begin, take the coffee table top outside and sand it down to remove imperfections, as well as any existing paint or finish that exists. Use fine-grit sandpaper to avoid excessive damage. Vacuum the top to rid it of any excess dust from sanding.
Step 2: Primer
Once you have finished sanding and vacuumed the surface, you are ready to apply the primer. Use an oil-based primer and apply it with a brush in even strokes. Let the primer sit for 24 hours or until it is completely dry.
Step 3: Paint
After the primer has had time to dry, you can begin painting the top. Choose the color and type of paint that you would like to use. Apply several thin coats of paint in even strokes, allowing each coat to dry completely before applying the next.
Step 4: Polyurethane
Once the paint has dried and all coats have been applied, you are ready to apply a polyurethane finish. The polyurethane will add a glossy sheen to the top and will help protect it from scratches or other damage. Apply thin coats of polyurethane and let it dry completely between coats.
Step 5: Enjoy!
When everything has been dried, you are ready to enjoy your renovated coffee table top. The new paint and finish should look great and should last a while. Remember to dust the top occasionally to maintain the sheen and to keep it looking great!
