How to Make Trapezoid Legs for Coffee Table
When making furniture, it’s important to consider the shape of the legs to give a unique panache to the overall design. Trapezoid legs are an interesting option to make a statement piece of furniture, such as a coffee table. Here’s how it’s done.
Materials Needed
- Table saw
- Set of clamps
- Wood glue
- Pencil
- Measuring tape
- Trapezoid jigsaw blade
Step 1 – Cut the Side Pieces
Start by measuring the length and width of the desired trapezoid base depending on the design. Cut the wood for the four side pieces at a 45-degree angle for a straight line for the much easier joinery process.
Step 2 – Join the Pieces with Wood Glue
Using wood glue, join the four pieces together with a set of clamps and apply pressure evenly across the parts to ensure a secure hold. Let it sit for 15 minutes and make sure to wipe away any excess glue.
Step 3 – Secure the Joints with Screws
Once the glue is dry, predrill the sides with a countersink bit and then add screws. Make sure to add enough to secure the legs together.
Step 4 – Sand and Glue on the Top
Sand down any rough edges on the legs and then glue it to the top of the coffee table. Make sure to use clamps and let it sit until the glue dries.
