How to Make a End Grain Coffee Table
Materials You’ll Need:
- 3⁄4-inch-thick kiln-dried cherry, oak or other hardwood end-grain squares
- Table saw
- Planer
- Jointer
- Random-orbit sander
- Stain
- Polyurethane
- Wood glue
- Six corner claps
- Six table legs
Prepping the Wood for Your Table:
- Carefully measure and cut each piece of wood to the desired length.
- Using a jointer, smooth out one edge of the wood.
- Run the planer over the face of each piece of wood to even it out.
- Use the table saw to rip each piece of wood to about 1⁄4-inch to 1⁄2-inch thick.
- Measure and cut the four sides of the table top to the desired length.
Assembling the Table:
- Use the wood glue to adhere the four sides together.
- Ensure that the corners are square and that the top is flat.
- Once the glue has dried, use the random-orbit sander to smooth out the table top.
- Stain and finish the wood with a coat of polyurethane.
- Once the finish has dried, attach the legs to the underside of the table top with corner clamps.
