How to Build a Cross Lap X Brace Coffee Table
Building a gorgeous, sturdy coffee table with a cross lap X brace is a great way to get the designer look, without costing you a lot of money or taking up too much time. Follow these easy steps and you’ll soon have an impressive homemade table to show off to your family and friends.
Materials Needed
- Wooden board (1 1/4” thick, far enough for the desired length and width of your table)
- 4 Wooden legs (1/2” thick, either square or round, at least 16” in length)
- Wood screws (1 1/2” long)
- Wood glue
- Drill bit (3/32”)
- Sandpaper
- Wood Stain (optional)
Directions
- Start by measuring and cutting your wooden board to the desired length and width of your table. Once you have your board, sand the surfaces and any sharp edges.
- Take your four wooden legs and create a X brace, using two of them at each pole. Secure the legs using one screw on each connection.
- (Optional) If you’d like to add a bit of character to your table, use a drill bit to create holes in the top of the legs (these will be used to secure the board to the legs)
- Place the board onto the legs and position it. Once you’re happy with the placement, use wood glue to secure the board to the legs.
- Using your wood screws, screw the board into each leg.
- (Optional) If you’d like, you can now coat the table with wood stain before leaving to dry overnight.
- Your coffee table is now ready to be use and admired.
Creating a coffee table can be a fun, enjoyable project to try and the cross lap X brace table is an easy way to create a great-looking one. Plus, it won’t cost you very much and it won’t take too long to make.
