How to Make Crate Coffee Table
Crate coffee tables are a popular DIY project for any budding carpenter–they’re fairly easy to make and look great when completed! Follow this tutorial to learn how to make your own crate coffee table in just a few steps.
Materials:
- Four wooden crates
- Drill and screws
- Wooden boards
- Stain or paint (optional)
- Foam mattress (optional)
- Fabric (optional)
Step 1: Attach the Crates
Start by joining 2 crates together with the drill and screws, making sure the corners of each crate are flush. Repeat with the remaining 2 crates, so you have a total 2 crate stacks.
Step 2: Attach the Stacks
Now it’s time to attach the 2 stacks together. Place them side by side, so the top of each stack is even with the other, and use the drill and screws to secure them together.
Step 3: Add Support
You’ll now need to strengthen the structure with additional boards. Measure the size of the top of the crates, and then cut wooden boards to fit. Attach them to the underside of the stacks with the drill and screws.
Step 4: Add a Top
To complete your table, add a top. Cut a piece of board to the right size, and then attach it with the drill and screws. Now you can stain or paint the table, if desired.
Step 5: Add Finishing Touches
If you’d like to add extra cushioning, cut a piece of foam mattress the same size as the top of the table, and then cover it with fabric for a stylish finishing touch.
And you’re done! Now you can admire your unique, handmade crate coffee table.
