Steps for Making an Ottoman Out of a Coffee Table
Creating your own unique ottoman from a coffee table is an easy and cost-effective way to furnish your living space. With a few tools and some patience, you can create an attractive, comfortable piece of furniture that is tailored perfectly to your needs.
Gather Your Supplies
- Coffee Table
- High-density Foam
- Upholstery Batting
- Fabric of Your Choice
- Staple Gun and Staples
Prepare Your Coffee Table
Begin by dismantling your coffee table, making sure to keep all the parts in a safe place, such as a plastic bin or cardboard box. Remove all legs from the table and clean both the tabletop and the legs if needed.
Cut Foam and Upholster
Cut two pieces of foam to fit the top of your coffee table. Make sure the pieces are slightly oversized, as you may need to trim once you’ve finished upholstering. Lay the foam on top of the table and wrap the entire top with the upholstery batting. Secure the batting in place with the staple gun.
Add Fabric
Lay your fabric of choice on a flat surface and place the foam-covered coffee table top face-down in the center. Measure and cut fabric to fit the top, and then attach it to the top with the staple gun. Be sure to tug lightly and evenly as you staple, creating a taut, neat finish.
Reassemble and Enjoy
Once all the upholstery is complete, remount the legs on your new ottoman. Enjoy your new piece of furniture!
Tip: if the upholstery is looking a bit too simple for your taste, try adding decorative buttons, grommets or nail heads for an added pop of style.
