How to Make a Trunk Style Coffee Table
A trunk style coffee table is an excellent way to add style and character to any room. With its signature look, you can create an eye-catching centerpiece that will be the focus of any room. Here are the steps to make your own trunk style coffee table:
Tools and Materials Needed
- Vintage trunk
- Drill with multiple bit sizes
- Drill bits
- Tape measure
- Circular saw
- Table saw
- Wood glue
- 4×4 blocks
- 2×4 boards
- Wood screws
- Sand paper
- Paint or stain
Step 1: Prepare the Base
Measure the opening of the trunk and use a circular saw to cut two pieces of lumber, (one 4×4 and one 2×4), to fit them. Glue the two pieces together, with the 4×4 on the top and the 2×4 overlapping the bottom and sides of the 4×4. Use wood screws and wood glue to attach the 4×4. Sand down any rough edges.
Step 2: Attach the Base to the Trunk
Use the drill and bit size that fit the screws you are using. Drill the screws into the inside of the trunk-leaving just enough space to allow for the 4×4 and 2×4 boards. Make sure that the screws are driven deep enough to hold, but not so deep that you damage the trunk’s inner lining. Once secured, use wood glue to attach the 2×4 board to the bottom of the trunk.
Step 3: Finish Up
Sand down any rough edges and apply a coating of paint or stain. Let the table dry before adding any decorations. You now have a beautiful trunk style coffee table, sure to be the talk of any room!
Congratulations! You have just made your own unique trunk style coffee table.
