How to Make a Large Coffee Table DIY
A Step-by-Step Guide
DIY projects can be a great way to upgrade your home’s interior and have fun at the same time. Building your own large coffee table is a great way to add a unique piece of furniture to your living room or even outdoor deck. With a few supplies, some light woodworking knowledge, and a few hours of work, you can easily craft a custom table for your space.
Materials:
- Wood boards
- Table legs
- Tabletop fastener
- Wood glue
- Varnish
- Sandpaper
- Drill
- Screws
Step 1: Determine the Size
Before you purchase any materials, it is important to determine the size of table you would like to make. Consider the size and shape that will be most fitting for the area you are adding the table to. This could be a large or small square, or a rectangle. Measure the space and make notes of the measurements.
Step 2: Gather the Materials
Once you have your measurements, it’s time to gather all the materials for your project. Bring your measurements with you when shopping for wood board and table legs. Additionally, make sure to pick up top fastener and screws that will match the thickness of the wood you choose.
Step 3: Cut the Boards and Sand
Carefully measure, mark and cut the boards to your desired lengths. It’s important to have all the sides cut to the same length in order to have an even surface area. Once all the pieces have been cut, sand all three boards evenly (front, back and sides) to prepare for the glue.
Step 4: Putting It Together
Prepare the surface for gluing by cleaning off any sawdust and debris. Apply wood glue to the side edges of the boards and assemble them. Make sure to align the corners for a perfectly square and even surface. Secure the boards with glue clamps and apply pressure for a secure and tight fit.
Step 5: Attaching Legs
Predrill holes into the corners of the coffee table. Place the table legs on the outside of the corners and drill screws into the pre-drilled holes to securely attach the legs.
Step 6: Finishing Touches
Fill in any gaps or holes with wood filler. Then, sand everything down and apply finishing varnish or paint to the table.
Step 7: Enjoy Your Custom Table
Your custom table is now ready to be enjoyed. Place it in your living room, outdoor entertaining area, or wherever you would like to enjoy it in your home. Enjoy the satisfaction of having designed and crafted a new piece of furniture.
With these simple steps, you can quickly and easily craft your own large coffee table. DIY projects can be a great way to enhance any space and bring new life to furniture. Enjoy your new custom coffee table!
