How To Make A Glass Coffee Table

Glass coffee tables can bring a touch of sophistication to any room, even if they’re made entirely from scratch. It might seem intimidating to take on this project, but with the right tools and knowledge, it’s surprisingly easy – and can end up saving a lot of money in the end.

Tools Needed:

  • Glass cutter
  • 4″x4″ boards (for the table base)
  • Wood clamps
  • Wood glue
  • Sandpaper
  • Finishing supplies (stain/paint, polyurethane, etc.)

Step 1: Measure and Cut The Glass

Getting the right size for your glass top is key. Make sure to measure the space you plan to place the table carefully and subtract 1/4″ from your measurements to ensure the glass fits well. With measurements taken, you’re ready to purchase your glass from a local hardware store or glass shop.

Using the glass cutter, carefully score the glass along the lines of your measurements and then break it apart. Make sure to wear gloves and use a cutting board or other protective layer to avoid any injuries or damages.

Step 2: Cut and Arrange The Table Base

Using a saw of your choosing, cut the 4×4 boards according to the measurements of your table. Place the boards in the shape of a square, creating the frame of your table, and use wood clamps to keep it in place. Finally, secure the frame by coating the inside with wood glue.

Step 3: Sand and Stain The Table Base

Once the glue has dried, sand the table to create a smooth surface. Wipe away any dust and then stain or paint your table according to personal preference. Lastly, use a light layer of polyurethane to make your table extra durable.

Step 4: Attach The Glass Top

Once the table has been finished, you can attach the glass top to the base with wood glue. Allow the glue to set and then your table is ready to use!

Congratulations! You have successfully made your own glass coffee table.
