Make a Beautiful Coffee Table With Drawers
Making your own piece of furniture can be an exciting and satisfying experience. Follow these steps to make your own stylish coffee table that has drawers for storage.
Tools and Materials Needed
- Tape measure
- Table saw
- Circular saw
- Hand drill
- 2” screws
- Countersink bit
- 2×2 lumber
- Plywood
- Drawer slides
- Drawer pulls
- Wood glue
- Wood filler
Step One: Cut the Wood
To begin, take your measurements of the table top, the drawer fronts and sides, and the legs for the table. Cut the 2x2s into the legs according to your measurements using a table saw or a circular saw. Cut the plywood for the table top and the drawer fronts and sides, to the size requested. You can also cut the plywood into strips to add lip to the drawers.
Step Two: Assemble the Table Top
Secure the legs to the underside of the table top using 2” screws and countersink bit. Make sure all the screws are flush so there’s no bump visible on the table top.
Step Three: Assemble the Drawers
Assemble the drawer boxes using your measurements and wood glue. Attach the plywood strips to the edges of the drawer fronts and sides. Allow to dry completely.
Step Four: Put in The Drawer Slides
Attach the drawer slides to the table top and the drawer boxes using wood screws and a hand drill. Make sure the slides slide smoothly without sticking.
Step Five: Add in The Drawer Pulls
Add the drawer pulls to the drawer fronts for a finished look.
Finishing Touches
Fill in any visible holes, screw heads or seams with wood filler. Sand the wood filler with a sandpaper so that the surface of your coffee table is smooth and free of visible blemishes. Now you have a coffee table with drawers that you can proudly show off.
Congratulations! You’ve just made a beautiful coffee table with drawers. Enjoy your new piece of furniture!
