How to Remove Rust from Glass Coffee Pot
Rust on a glass coffee pot is not something you want to look at or consume in your beverages. Rust is not only unsightly, but the metal particles could be damaging to your health. Thankfully, there are a few tricks to remove rust from your glass coffee pot quickly and easily.
Materials Needed
- White vinegar
- Lemon juice
- Baking soda
- Dish soap
- Mild abrasive pad or scrub brush
- Dry cloth or paper towels
Instructions
- Soak the glass coffee pot. Fill a deep sink or dishpan with hot water and add 1 cup of white vinegar. Immerse the glass coffee pot and let it soak for 1 hour.
- Scrub the rust. After 1 hour, remove the glass coffee pot and add lemon juice to a small bowl. Dip a mild abrasive pad or scrub brush in the lemon juice and scrub the rust away. Make sure to get in all of the nooks and crannies on the glass coffee pot.
- Make a paste. Pour a small amount of baking soda into a bowl and add enough dish soap to make a paste. Spread the paste all over the outside of the glass coffee pot, covering the places with rust.
- Scrub again. Let the paste sit for 20 minutes and then scrub the glass coffee pot with the abrasive pad or brush until all the rust is gone.
- Rinse and dry. Rinse off the soap and baking soda with hot water. Dry the glass coffee pot with a dry cloth or paper towels and make sure to remove any leftover residue.
Tips and Warnings
- If the rust on your glass coffee pot is too stubborn, you can try mixing a paste of equal parts vinegar and baking soda. Spread the paste on the affected areas and let it sit for an hour before scrubbing.
- Be careful when using an abrasive pad or scrub brush. Do not rub too hard or you may scratch the glass.
