Fixing a Scratched Glass Coffee Table
Having a scratched glass coffee table can make any room look unappealing and ruined. Thankfully, it’s possible to fix a scratched piece of glass fairly easily, allowing you to keep your coffee table looking new and beautiful. Here’s how:
1. Clean the surface of the table.
- Mix 1 tablespoon of dish soap with 1 liter of warm water in a bucket.
- Dip a soft cloth into the soapy water and wring it out.
- Gently rub over the scratched area of glass with the cloth until the surface of the table is clean.
- Rinse the surface of the table with clean water and dry it with a soft cloth.
2. Find the right sandpaper.
- Look for sandpaper with a silicon carbide or aluminum oxide backing.
- Use a sandpaper that is fine-grit, with a rating of between 1000-3000.
- Make sure the sandpaper is dry when you use it.
3. Sand the area.
- Spray water onto the scratched area to prevent too much friction and heat.
- Hold the sandpaper at a 45 degree angle to the scratched area and move it in small, even circles.
- Keep the sandpaper moving in a constant direction – don’t go backwards and forwards.
- Continue to lightly sand the scratched area until the scratch has been removed.
4. Polish the glass.
- Mix equal parts of ammonia and water in a small bowl.
- Dampen the corner of a clean cloth with the mixture.
- Wipe the glass with the cloth in small circles to polish it.
- Repeat until the entire surface of the table is polished.
By following these easy steps, you will be able to fix any scratches and scrapes on your glass coffee table so that it looks like new again. With a little bit of elbow grease and some everyday household supplies, you can bring your table back to life and keep your room looking great.
