Fixing A Superficial Crack in Your Glass Coffee Table
If your glass coffee table has a superficial crack, you can usually repair it yourself in a few easy steps. Don’t let a shattered glass coffee table destroy your home decor, follow these steps to mend the crack.
Things You’ll Need:
- Glass adhesive
- Clean cloth
- Paper towels
- Cordless drill with diamond bit
- Masking tape
Step 1: Gather Supplies
Gather the supplies listed above including glass adhesive. Be sure to purchase glass adhesive specifically made for repairing glass, as many other types of adhesives will not work.
Step 2: Clean the Crack
Once you have all of the necessary supplies, you’ll need to clean the crack. Wipe down the crack with a clean rag to remove all dirt, grime, and dust. Make sure to wear protective gloves so you don’t get cut by the sharp edges of the glass.
Step 3: Apply Tape
Apply masking tape on both sides of the cracked area and tape it firmly to the glass to secure it. This is important for keeping the crack clean and free of any debris.
Step 4: Drill Holes
Take the cordless drill and diamond bit and carefully drill two small holes in each corner of the crack. This will help the adhesive to create a better bond between the broken pieces.
Step 5: Apply the Adhesive
Once the holes are drilled, it’s time to apply the glass adhesive. Squeeze the glue into the crack, being sure to fill all of the corner holes. Let the adhesive sit for about 10 minutes or until it becomes tacky.
Step 6: Wipe Away Excess Glue
Once the adhesive has become tacky, use a paper towel to wipe away any excess glue. Be sure to take caution in this step so you don’t disrupt the adhesive bond of the crack.
Step 7: Remove Tape
Once the glue has hardened, you can carefully remove the tape from both sides. You may need to use a razor blade to get the tape off if it is stuck on the surface.
