How to easily fix a cracked glass coffee table
Glass coffee table can become a showpiece of your living room, however, it can also easily get damaged. Fixing a cracked glass coffee table may seem like a daunting process but don’t panic! Follow these simple steps in order to easily repair your favorite glass coffee table:
Step 1: Cleaning and prepping
Start by cleaning the surface of the table with a mild detergent and warm water. Make sure that there’s no dust or dirt on the table around the broken glass. After cleaning, let the glass for an hour so that it could dry completely.
Step 2: Sand down the crack
Using a piece of medium-grit sandpaper, sand down the crack. You should also sand down the edges as well, in order to make them smooth.
Step 3: Preparing the epoxy
Mix about 2 tablespoons of epoxy glue with an equal amount of the hardening agent. Stir the mixture properly. It’s important to ensure that the mixture is the right consistency and not too thick.
Step 4: Applying the epoxy glue
Carefully apply the glue onto the broken edges. Make sure you get the mixture into all the corners of the crack. Run your finger across the crack to ensure the glue is pushed into all the cracks.
Step 5: Allow it to dry
Allow the epoxy glue to completely dry for about 24 hours. After it comes fully dry, use a piece of sandpaper to sand down any excess glue and ensure the surface is even.
Step 6: Applying the nail polish
Finally, apply a coat of clear nail polish to the crack in order to seal it. This will also give the table a glossy look.
Tips and Tricks
Remember to wear gloves while working – working with epoxy glue requires special protection. Wear gloves when handling the epoxy glue, sandpaper, and any other tools.
Avoid using strong chemicals – strong acids, such as vinegar, should not be used for cleaning glass. Also, avoid using too much pressure when cleaning or sanding the glass.
Always use protective eye-wear – when sanding always wear a protective mask or sunglasses to protect your eyes from flying glass shards.
Keep the crack small – the epoxy glue is only able to do so much and can’t fix a large crack. The best way to prevent this from happening is to avoid putting too much pressure on the glass when cleaning or moving it.
By following these simple steps, you’ll be able to effectively fix a cracked glass coffee table in no time!
