Gather Supplies
Before you begin your coffee table project, get your supplies in order. You will need:
- Coffee table
- Fine concrete mix
- Mixing container
- Concrete float
- Wood float
- Chisel
- Concrete sealant
- Dust mask
Create Your Cement Mold
Use a saw or drills to measure out the dimensions of your mold. Be precise when measuring and cut the wood planks precise to size using a handsaw. When that’s done, drill pocket holes so you can effortlessly assemble and disassemble the mold.
Bond The Planks and Set Up The Mold
Use wood glue and assemble the planks for your mold ensuring that the waterproof material is connected to the bottom. Add timber screws to the pocket holes for a tight fit and finally set the mold on top of the base.
Prepare and Pour the Cement
Now it’s time to prepare the concrete and pour it into the mold. Mix it with water as per manufacturer’s instructions till you reach a runny consistency that isn’t too thick or thin. Then, pour the mix into the mold, tap the sides to help settle the concrete and use your wood float to remove air bubbles.
Finishing Touches
Allow 24 hours for the concrete to dry and using a chisel, gently remove the excess concrete around the edges. Once that’s done, gently lift off the frame and the concrete top is ready. Use a sealant to prevent stains and you’re all set.
