Creating Waves on a Coffee Table
Supplies Required
- Glass Coffee Table
- Phenol Formaldehyde Resin
- Industrial Grade Spray Gun
- Glazing Compound
- Power Sander
Step 1: Take Measurements
Before you embark on creating the surface shift, take measurements of the surface area of the coffee table. Also, decide the size and the number of waves you will be creating on the surface of the table.
Step 2: Prepare the Table Surface
Make sure the surface of the table is clean. Use a strong solvent to remove any debris or impurities from the surface. Use a power sander to create a smooth surface.
Step 3: Prepare the Resin
Mix the phenol formaldehyde resin and the glazing compound in a bowl. This resin will act as a glue to hold the waves together. Use an industrial grade spray gun to spread the resin evenly over the surface of the table.
Step 4: Create the Waves
Using a damp rag, create the waves on the surface of the table. Create some tension by pulling the rag until it forms crests and troughs. Make sure to leave enough room between each wave. Once the desired shape has been achieved, let it sit for a few minutes.
Step 5:Sand and Refine
Once the waves have been formed, use a power sander to refine each wave. This will smooth out any imperfections and create a uniform look.
Step 6: Apply a Sealer
Once the waves have been created and sanded, apply a sealer to protect the surface of the table. This will prevent the resin from deteriorating over time.
