How to Clean a Timber Coffee Table
Having a timber coffee table adds a rustic charm to any living space. To preserve the look and feel of your coffee table it is important that you keep it properly cleaned and maintained.
Cleaning instructions
- Wipe away dirt and spills: Use a damp cloth with a small amount of mild detergent to quickly wipe away dirt, dust and spills. Make sure you rinse all residue away with a second damp cloth, and then dry your coffee table thoroughly with a third cloth.
- Clean problem areas: If your timber coffee table is stained or if there are any particular problem areas use a non-abrasive cleaner designed for wood surfaces. A natural oil soap or furniture polish can also be used, but you must test it on an inconspicuous spot first. Use a soft cloth and follow the direction on the label.
- Polish: Once you’ve finished cleaning your coffee table you can polish it and protect it with a suitable furniture wax or polish. Apply the polish according to directions. Make sure when you are finished you buff the surface with a soft, clean cloth.
Maintenance
Timber furniture needs special care and attention. Here are some tips for maintaining your coffee table:
- Protect from direct sunlight: Direct sunlight can cause discolouration and sun-fading on timber furniture, so be sure to keep your coffee table away from direct sunlight.
- Add coasters: Put coasters or place mats on your coffee table to protect the surface from scratches, hot dishes or drinks.
- Regular cleaning: Dust your coffee table regularly and give it a deeper clean every few months.
Follow these simple steps and you will be able to keep your timber coffee table looking its best.
