Cleaning the Inside of a Glass Coffee Carafe
Waking up to a fresh-brewed cup of coffee can be one of life’s little pleasures. But to enjoy the best cup of joe, it’s important to regularly clean the inside of the glass coffee carafe. Whether you have an automatic drip coffee maker, a French press, or an espresso machine, the following tips will help you keep your carafe sparkling and free of odors.
Basic Cleaning
Between uses, rinse the carafe with hot soapy water. For tougher stains, scrub with a small brush or sponge.
Deep Cleaning
To get rid of stubborn build-up, mix the following ingredients together:
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 4 cups of hot water
- 1 tablespoon of vinegar
Stir the mixture in the carafe, then let it sit for 10 minutes. Rinse with soapy water, then rinse again with plain water.
Disinfecting
To disinfect the inside of the carafe, fill it with equal parts white vinegar and water. Let the mixture stand for at least 5 minutes. Pour it out and rinse the carafe with hot soapy water. Finally, rinse with plain water.
Additional Tips
- Be careful when scrubbing – don’t scratch the glass. In addition to ruining the carafe, scratched glass can harbor bacteria.
- Use baking soda – baking soda is abrasive and can help remove tough stains.
- Use white vinegar – because of its antiseptic properties, white vinegar is a great choice for disinfecting.
By following these simple instructions, you can easily keep your glass coffee carafe looking great and tasting fresh!
