How To Clean a Glass Coffee Carafe
Coffee making is a ritual for many in the morning, but one downside to its use is needing to keep the carafe clean. Here’s what you need to know about keeping your carafe sparkling.
Things You’ll Need
- Paper towels
- White vinegar
- Baking soda
- Small brush
Step 1: Unplug and Remove Carafe
If possible, unplug your coffee maker and remove your carafe first. This makes the cleaning process easier and also safer.
Step 2: Rinse and Wipe Carafe
Using a soft cloth or paper towel, rinse the carafe with warm water. Then, use a clean paper towel to wipe down the inside, as well as the lid and exterior of the carafe.
Step 3: Prepare a Cleaning Solution
In a small bowl, mix together 1/2 cup of white vinegar and 2 tablespoons of baking soda. Fill the carafe with this solution and use a soft-bristled brush to scrub the interior surfaces of the carafe.
Step 4: Rinse and Wipe Again
Dump out the vinegar/baking soda solution and rinse the carafe with warm water. Once again, use a clean paper towel to wipe the inside and outside of the carafe.

The final step is to let the carafe air dry completely before replacing it in your coffeemaker.
Tips for Improved Cleaning
- Coffee oils, debris and stains may be stubborn on a carafe. If this is the case, use a 1:1 vinegar and water mix, or use a specialized carafe cleaner found at most kitchen stores.
- If the carafe is made of Pyrex glass, you can clean it in your dishwasher.
