How To Clean A Glass Coffee Carafe
No matter how good the coffee is, it won’t taste right if the carafe used to brew it in is dirty. Having a weekly cleaning routine for your coffee carafe is essential to ensure an optimal cup of coffee, and luckily there are a couple of easy methods for cleaning it.
Things You’ll Need
- Cleaning cloth or sponge
- White vinegar or baking soda
- Warm water
- Dish soap (optional)
Method 1 – Vinegar and Water Solution
- Fill the carafe with warm water. Make sure the water is warm, not hot, as this will cause any residue to be easier to remove.
- Add 1/2 cup of white vinegar. Vinegar is excellent for removing residue from glass containers.
- Allow the mixture to sit for one hour. After one hour, the vinegar should have broken down and loosened up any residue.
- Empty the carafe and scrub with a cloth or sponge. If there is still residue stuck on the carafe, you can use a little bit of dish soap on a cloth or sponge to scrub it off.
- Rinse with warm water, and air dry. Now your carafe should be sparkling clean and ready to use!
Method 2 – Baking Soda, Water Solution
- Fill the carafe with warm water. A warm, not hot, water is important to help release the residue.
- Add 1 tablespoon of baking soda. Baking soda is an excellent cleaning agent and will help to dissolve the residue.
- Allow the mixture to sit for one hour. After one hour, the baking soda should have broken down and loosened up any residue.
- Empty the carafe and scrub with a cloth or sponge. For stuck on residue, you can use a cloth or sponge with a little bit of dish soap to scrub it off.
- Rinse with warm water, and air dry. Now your carafe should be sparkling clean and ready to use!
With either method, be sure to use a soft, non-abrasive cloth or sponge and only use a small amount of dish soap when necessary, as it could leave a residue in the carafe. With a weekly cleaning routine, you can ensure that your morning cup of coffee will always be served in a squeaky clean carafe.
