How to Change Coffee Table Legs
One of the easiest ways to update and makeover a living space is to change the legs on your coffee table. Whether you’re swapping out traditional legs for something more on-trend, or completely replacing them with a new style, the difference a switch can make is a game-changer. Here are some tips to help you get started:
Choose Your New Legs
To get started, pick out a set of legs or legs/base combination that you like. If you plan to re-use the tabletop, make sure to choose a base size (length and width) that will fit on top. Commonly used materials include wood, metal, and acrylic.
Gather Your Supplies
Before starting any kind of DIY project, it’s always wise to have all of the necessary supplies on hand. For this project, you’ll need the following:
- Tabletop: you’ll need to remove the tabletop in order to access and remove the old legs
- Screwdriver: to remove screws holding the old legs into the tabletop
- Drill: in order to attach the new legs to the tabletop
- Screws: some new legs will come with new screws but you may need more depending on the material and type of hole they use
- Sandpaper: if the legs or tabletop has any splinters, you may use sandpaper to smooth them out before beginning assembly.
Attach New Legs
Once you have all your materials ready to go, you can begin attaching the new legs. Start by removing all screws from the tabletop, and then unscrew the old legs from the base. Using a drill and the screws that come with the new legs, attach it to the tabletop. Make sure to pay attention to each screw and which holes they go in, so that all screws and legs are evenly spaced and secured.
Finish & Enjoy
Once the legs are completely secured, all that’s left to do is to give it a good wipe-down and admire your handy work. Re-enjoy your coffee table with its chic new look—or find another area of the house that could use a makeover!
