How to build a solid wood coffee table
Are you looking to give your living room an extra touch of character? Building a solid wood coffee table may be the perfect project for you. Here’s how to get it done:
Step 1 – Gather your materials
You will need the following items to build your coffee table:
- Table saw
- Chisel
- Sand paper
- Wood glue
- Screws
- Saw horses
- Wood stain
- Clamps
- 4 pieces of 2″x4″x8′ solid wood
- 1 piece of 2″x6″x8′ solid wood
Step 2 – Cut the wood to size
Using the table saw, cut the 2x4s and 2×6 into four equal-sized legs and four equal-sized pieces for the frame. You should have eight identical pieces of wood when you are finished. Cut the remaining 2×6 into two equal-sized pieces for the top.
Step 3 – Assemble the frame
Lay the four pieces of wood for the frame side-by-side on a saw horse. With wood glue and clamps, attach the legs to the frame. Let the glue dry before proceeding to the next step.
Step 4 – Attach the top
Position the two pieces of 2×6 for the top on each side of the frame. Secure the top to the frame using screws.
Step 5 – Finishing touches
To finish your coffee table, sand and stain the wood. You can then add hardware, such as pulls or hinges, if desired.
Step 6 – Enjoy your new coffee table!
You’ve just built a sturdy and attractive solid wood coffee table – enjoy!
