How to Build a Rattan Coffee Table

Rattan coffee tables are perfect for adding a touch of tropical style to any room. Whether you want to make your own or buy one pre-made, you’ll want to find the perfect table to fit your unique style. Here is how to make your own DIY rattan coffee table:

Gather Your Materials

  • Rattan sheet with woven pattern (2)
  • MDF wood sheet (1)
  • Wood screws (2⁄3 inch) and washers
  • Wood glue
  • Scissors

Cut the Pieces to Size

Measure the area you would like your coffee table, then use a saw to cut pieces of MDF to the desired size. If you don’t have a saw, you can use a jigsaw or a hand saw, just make sure to wear safety goggles while you are cutting.

Cut the rattan sheets to the same size as the MDF pieces. Make sure to leave a 2 inch border around the edges so that the table has a lip when it’s finished.

Assemble the Table

Place the two rattan sheets on top of the MDF and line them up. Make sure to leave an even number of rattan rods between the MDF pieces. Before attaching the sheets to the MDF, use scissors to cut the excess rattan.

Secure the rattan sheets to the MDF using wood screws and washers. Make sure to leave an equal number of screws and washers on each side. To make the connection stronger, you can use wood glue before attaching the screws.

Finishing Touches

Once the coffee table is secured together, you can paint it to the desired color. You can also use a varnish or a sealant for added protection. Finally, choose some furniture legs to elevate your table and make it easier to clean.

Congratulations! You now have a beautiful and unique rattan coffee table. Enjoy!
