How to Build a Coffee Table with Shelf
Building a coffee table with shelf will add style to your living room and provide extra storage for blankets, remotes, books, and more. With a few simple tools and supplies, you can easily make your own coffee table with a shelf.
Tools and Supplies Needed
- Table Saw
- Circular Saw
- Drill and Bits
- Wood Glue
- Sandpaper
- Wood Stain
- Wood screws
- 2×4 boards
- 2×2 boards
- 1 x 12 board
Step 1: Cut the Boards
Using the table saw and circular saw, cut the 2×4 boards to the required lengths: two 40-inch pieces, three 21-inch pieces and two 14-inch pieces. With the 1×12 board, cut one 40-inch piece and two 21-inch pieces. With the 2×2 boards, cut four 22-inch pieces.
Step 2: Assemble the Base
Take the two 40-inch 2×4 boards and lay them perpendicular to each other to make an “L” shape. Secure them together with wood glue and wood screws. Then, take the three 21-inch 2×4 boards and attach them in a box frame on top of the “L” shape. Once all the boards are secured together, sand the wood and apply wood stain.
Step 3: Add the Shelf
Take the two 22-inch 2×2 boards and attach them to the underside of the 40-inch 1×12 board using wood screws. Place the shelf in the center of the box frame and secure with wood screws.
Step 4: Attach the Top
Take the remaining 40-inch 1×12 board and place it on top of the box frame. Attach the board to the frame using wood glue and wood screws. Sand the wood and stain the entire piece.
Once your coffee table is finished, decorate it with magazines, books and plants. Your living room will look great with your newly made coffee table and shelf. Enjoy!
