How to Build a Small Glass Coffee Table

If you’re looking for a stylish, modern addition to your living room, nothing beats a small glass coffee table. Here’s how to build your own:

Gather Your Materials

For this project, you’ll need:

  • Four 1″ x 12″ boards
  • Measuring tape
  • One ¼” x 1″ x 5′ angle iron
  • One ½” x 1″ x 5′ angle iron
  • One 3/16th inch thick x 5′ x 7′ tempered glass top
  • Screws or framed angles for attachment
  • Miter saw
  • Drill
  • Saw blade for cutting angle iron

Cut the Wood Pieces

You’ll need to cut four 1″ x 12″ boards to size. Measure twice and cut once to ensure accurate measurements. With the four boards cut, you’ll then need to attach the angle irons to them. Use the screws or framed angles depending on which you’ve chosen.

Attach the Glass Top

Once the wood pieces and angle irons are attached and secure, it’s time to attach the glass top. Be sure to handle the glass with care and use two people to position the glass. Secure the edges of the glass to the wood pieces with the ¼” x 1″ angle iron.

Finishing Touches

Once the glass is attached, round off the corners and edges of the glass with a grinder. Be sure to use a mask and googles for added protection. Then remove any sharp edges from the corners of the angle iron before applying a metal polish to make the metal shine.

Painting or Staining the Wood

Finally, stain or paint the wood pieces with a color of your choice. This will tie in your coffee table to the color palette of your living room and give your table a finished, professional look.

That’s it! You’ve just successfully built your own small glass coffee table. Enjoy your beautiful new furniture item for many years to come.
