How to Build a Reclaimed Wood Coffee Table
Making a coffee table out of reclaimed wood is a great way to create unique and beautiful furniture for your home. Not only does using reclaimed wood reduce waste, but it also captures a piece of past times that you can enjoy in any part of your house.
1. Choose Your Wood
There are many different types of reclaimed wood available, so pick the one(s) you prefer. Some of the most popular woods are old barn wood, fence boards, pallet boards, and driftwood. Consider the stains, markings, and overall color of the wood before you decide.
2. Gather Your Supplies
You will need the following supplies to assemble your coffee table:
- Reclaimed wood
- Wood Glue
- Table Saw
- Wood Screws
- Sandpaper
- Wood filler
- Paint or Stain
3. Prep the Wood
Before you begin assembling the coffee table, make sure the wood is properly prepped. Use a table saw to cut the wood to the desired size and shape. Sand the reclaimed wood until it is smooth, and fill any gaps or cracks with wood filler.
4. Assemble the Table
Lay the tabletop pieces out on the floor, ensuring they are flush with each other. Then, use the wood glue and screws to secure the pieces. Once the glue and screws are dry, use the sandpaper to smooth out any rough edges.
5. Finish the Coffee Table
When the coffee table is fully assembled, it’s time to finish it. You can choose to either stain or paint the wood. If you choose to stain the wood, make sure to apply a few layers of sealant to protect it. On the other hand, if you choose to paint the coffee table, make sure to use a few coats of paint to ensure it will last.
6. Enjoy Your Table!
Once your coffee table is finished, it’s time to enjoy it! Place it in your living room and admire your work as you relax and enjoy your coffee.
