Making a coffee table out of crates does not have to be intimidating! With just a few tools and some simple measurements, you can build a stylish, modern, and sustainable coffee table that fits your home decor. Here is a helpful guide on how to build your own coffee table out of crates.
Materials
- 4 identical wooden crates
- 2 pieces of 3/8″ x 3″ wood (for the tabletop support)
- Wood glue
- Nail gun
- Stain and protective finish
- Foam brush
- Sandpaper
- Tabletop
Instructions
- Take the four crates and arrange them into a rectangle. Make sure the corners of each crate line up and the edges are even.
- Take the two 3/8″ x 3″ pieces of wood and position them on the two outer sides of the crates. These pieces of wood will be used to add extra support for the tabletop.
- Apply a generous amount of wood glue onto each of the pieces of wood and attach them to the sides of the crates. Use the nail gun to secure the pieces of wood.
- Sand down the entire assembly to remove any rough edges and splinters.
- Apply a stain of your choice with a foam brush and let the stain dry.
- Apply a protective finish to seal and protect the table from dirt, dust, or other damage. Allow the finish to dry completely before proceeding.
- Position the tabletop on the crates, making sure it is centered and even. Secure the tabletop with wood glue.
- Allow the glue to dry completely before moving the table.
And there you have it! Your own crate coffee table, built with your own hands. Have fun styling the piece with magazines and other decorations to add a personal touch to the room.
