how to build a coffee table display case

Building a Coffee Table Display Case

DIY projects are a great way to spruce up your space, and a custom-built display case is a wonderful addition your living room. Follow these steps to construct your own coffee table display case.

Materials

  • Wood: 1 sheet of plywood, several boards (cut to desired dimensions)
  • Hardware: hinge, frame latch, screws
  • Tools: saw, screws, drill and bits, hammer, screwdriver
  • Wood glue, sandpaper
  • Paint or varnish

Step 1: Cut Your Pieces

Using the saw, cut the boards and plywood to the desired dimensions for a top and bottom, left and right side, and a back. This will be the basic box for the display case. The top should overlap the sides and the back should be slightly larger than the back to create an enclosed space.

Step 2: Assemble the Pieces

Using the wood glue and screws, assemble the pieces to form the basic box. Attach the sides to the top and bottom, then attach the back. Make sure all edges are flush and secure.

Step 3: Sand and Paint

Once the box is assembled, sand it down to smooth out any rough edges and to prepare the surface for painting. Apply your desired paint or varnish.

Step 4: Install Hinges & Latch

Attach the hinges to the top of the box and the frame latch to the side. This will allow you to be able to open and close the display case.

Step 5: Place Your Display Items

You will now be able to place items in the display case for all to see. Congratulations – you have just made a custom coffee table display case!
