Are Glass Coffee Mugs Microwave Safe?
If you have a beloved glass coffee mug but you’re wondering if you can use it in the microwave, you’re not alone. Many people have the same question, and the answer is usually a quiet “yes.”
But before you choose to warm up your coffee in the microwave, there are a few things you should know.
Know Your Mug
Glass mugs with metallic trim, are not microwave safe, because the metal trim can cause arcing or sparks inside your microwave. Before you place your mug in the microwave, check carefully. Avoid any that have metal trim or metallic print. Also, avoid mugs with glued-on handles as the heat of the microwave may loosen the glue that bonds it to the mug.
Heat Your Mug Carefully

- Use a protective place-mat . Place your mug on a mug dab or place-mat before heating to help distribute and disperse the heat.
- Avoid drastic temperature changes. To prevent your mug from breaking, always allow it to cool completely before adding any cold liquids, or putting it in the refrigerator.
